Set in 364 hectares of native bush, Morere Hotsprings provides modern bathing and spa facilities in a beautiful natural environment. Walking tracks range from 20 mins to a challenging 2 – 3 hours hike in one of the last remaining lowland native rainforest on the East Coast. Beautiful stands of Nikau Palms grow abundantly in this lovely setting. Approximately 40km’s north of the Wairoa Township on SH 2, towards Gisborne.
The jewel in the crown, Lake Waikaremoana, and it’s little sister Lake Waikareiti, are set perfectly in the 225,000 hectares of Te Ureuwera National Park – The largest untouched nature forest reserve in the North Island. The 3-4 day hike around the lake is one of the great walks of New Zealand. There is also a network of long & short walks to suit all ages – a must see when in Wairoa.
Mahia Peninsula is a mecca for people who love the sea. Boat launch facilities on both sides of the peninsula allow access to the excellent offshore fishing. There are also plenty of great, safe and sandy beaches, perfect for swimming and surfing – Seeing is believing.
The original home of Wairoa’s lighthouse, this is one of the earliest lighthouse sites in New Zealand. Portland Island now has an automated light and is run by DoC. Great fishing and diving in beautiful clean water.
The Vista Bar & Grill licensed restaurant is open Monday to Sunday from 5.30pm for evening dining.
